First Session of the 2026 Youth Dialogue Series Convened in Mogadishu
Balqiis Insights, in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), launched the 2026 Youth Dialogue Series under the Voices for Change: Public Forums for Peace initiative. The session brought together experts, young people, civil society representatives, and media practitioners to examine the growing strategic importance of the Red Sea and its implications for Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa.
The discussion explored the Red Sea as an increasingly contested geopolitical space, where regional and international actors pursue overlapping strategic interests. Participants reflected on how this competition continues to shape security dynamics, diplomatic relations, and broader political developments across the region.
The dialogue also examined the Somaliland recognition debate within this wider geopolitical context. Participants discussed how external interests and shifting regional alignments influence the debate, while also considering its implications for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and internal cohesion.
The session underscored the importance of informed public engagement in understanding complex geopolitical developments. Participants highlighted the role of youth, civil society, and media in strengthening public awareness and contributing to more balanced and constructive national discourse on issues affecting Somalia’s future.
Through the Voices for Change: Public Forums for Peace initiative, Balqiis Insights continues to support dialogue that deepens understanding of regional dynamics and promotes informed civic participation in Somalia.
